Remediation with Dynamo Maths

The intention of Dynamo Maths is to provide a Three Stage Programme for children who are struggling with maths or are dyscalculic. Its aim is to revisit and provide learning reinforcement that these pupils so badly need, in a positive and enjoyable manner.

Often failure or under achievement in maths is attributed to failure of attention or of motivation. Our programme supports the research that indicates that there may be specific areas such as working memory impairments or core deficits in acquiring these early vital mathematical skills. The programmes design supports the thinking process of children struggling with maths and has drawn extensively from research on how the brain learns maths.

It gives children a strong foundation for the development of Number Sense.

We work closely with teachers and experts in dyscalculia who work on a daily basis helping children boost their maths skills and we have seen many examples of excellent practice and observed the self esteem and confidence of children who have struggled with maths flourish. These experiences and learning continue to shape the development of DynamoMaths - Dyscalculia.

DynamoMaths is an inclusive resource benefitting a wide range of children allowing access to the curriculum. SENCo's at Primary schools are using this as a one-one resource targeting specific areas of learning. Special schools are also using this programme widely with children who have Specific Learning Difficulties and Generalised Learning Difficulties.

Irrespective of the nature of the Specific Learning Difficulty such as dyslexia, autism, Down syndrome, ADHD, dyspraxia.., if a child is struggling with early maths then this comprehensive programme is an excellent foundation tool for developing and acquiring Number Sense and Numeracy Proficiency.

We have been impressed with the many schools that are adopting this programme within their EYFS and KS1 programme as headteachers and KS1 Co-ordinators are recognising that DynamoMaths gives an excellent headstart to learning to count.

The Programme is also available to parents who wish to provide home support and added practice using a wide range of learning styles.

The Three Stage Programme

Stage 1 introduces the pupils to each aspect of number in their classroom in an interactive, tactile manner using a wide variety of manipulatives. This kinaesthetic learning is the first stage and is of vital importance. When the teacher feels that the pupil has gained the understanding necessary to practice these concepts in a pictorial and representational manner, then Dynamo Maths, Stage 2 provides the perfect tool. Working at their own pace for 10 minutes every day will lead to a fast and accurate manipulation of number with their teacher fully informed of their progress by the automated monitoring system. Stage 3 gives children the practice using paper based activities which allows them to reflect and record their workings.

The programme engages the learner using models, images, memory hooks, multi-sensory learning styles that supports the working memory.
